Myofascial Cupping
Cupping is an ancient soft tissue therapy that involves the movement of cups across the skin.
What is Myofascial Cupping?
Cupping is an ancient Chinese therapy through which a glass/ plastic cup is placed on the skin and the pressure inside reduced (usually by suction or heat.) This allows the skin and muscle tissue/ fascia to be drawn inside the cup and increases fluid movement and nutrient supply to the tissues.
How does it work?
Cupping is a form of ‘trigger point therapy’ and when combined with a gliding movement, can loosen soft tissue and increase circulation. This increase in blood supply to the area can stimulate your body to think it is injured; the theory is that it kickstarts a positive inflammatory response that brings antibodies to the area to try and heal it. The ultimate goal of cupping is to detoxify, release and increase range of motion.

What kind of cups do you use?
At Touchpoint, we use suction- fitted cups that operate with a small hand- pump- allowing the practitioner to suck out the air inside without any heat. This allows for great control over the cup, and increases the safety and comfort for the patient.
