Understanding Gas Troubles in Babies (0-4 months) and how Chiropractic care may help
Does your 0-4 month old struggle with passing gas? If so, you’re not alone. This is a common issue that many parents face, and it’s actually something called intestinal dyskinesia. While it sounds complicated, it simply means that your baby’s digestive system isn’t fully developed yet, which makes passing gas a bit more difficult.
Here’s what’s happening: up until about 3-4 months of age, a baby’s enteric nervous system—the part of the nervous system that controls the gut—isn’t fully developed. Because of this, when gas gets trapped in their intestines, they may not know how to process it properly. You may have noticed that even the happiest, healthiest baby can suddenly look uncomfortable. They might turn red, arch their back, or appear like they’re straining. This discomfort is often due to trapped gas that they don’t quite know how to release.
How can Chiropractic care help?
As a pediatric chiropractor, I work with families to show them different techniques that can ease their baby’s gas troubles. Gentle massages, proper positioning, and specific chiropractic adjustments can all make a big difference in helping babies pass gas more easily. These methods not only provide relief but also improve their comfort and overall well-being.
If your baby is struggling with gas, remember that it’s normal, and it usually resolves as their nervous system develops. In the meantime, I’m here to help! Together, we can work on techniques to soothe your little one, ensuring they’re comfortable and happy through these early months.
